Cleaning Hacks: How Often Should I Clean These Common Household Items?

Maintaining a house is hard work, especially when it comes to cleaning! It’s one of those household chores we don’t like to do but we have to. The last thing you want is mould, bacteria, grease, and grime building up in your living space. Here’s how often you should clean these household areas and how often.

The first thing you want to do is throw out anything that’s expired or has passed its use by date. As for how often you want to clean your fridge, quarterly is a great place to start. To deep clean your fridge, get two tablespoon of bicarb soda and mix it with warm water and wipe down sections of your fridge.

When it comes to your toaster, make sure you clean the outside at least once a week. As for the inside, once a month is best. As for the inside, turn it upside down and shake crumbs out and use a brush to brush out any crumbs that might still be inside. For stubborn stains, mix baking soda and water on a toothbrush or cloth (only making it damp, not wet) and gently wipe inside.

So you have a beautiful rug in your living room, but how do you clean it? Vacuuming it frequently will make sure it’s kept in good condition. Double-check with where you got your rug, since they might recommend a rug shampoo specifically for yours. Otherwise, a bit of detergent and warm water can help. After it’s dry, vacuum it again. Deep clean your rug every 12 months.

As for your toilet, you should be cleaning it once a week. Use a toilet cleaner and bleach to keep the toilet bowl sparkling clean. Simply allow the toilet cleaner to soak while you wipe down the outside of the bowl with a disinfectant. Go back to the inside and scrub around the toilet bowl with a brush. If you need some extra whitening, add in some bleach, and leave it to soak for an hour, then flush.
