COVID-19 Update

All retail is now open!

Malvern Central is closely monitoring COVID-19 and the advice of state and national health authorities in relation to infectious diseases.

Following recent government announcements, we are pleased to advise that all retailers are able to trade from Wednesday 28 October 2020.

Malvern Central has remained open throughout this period to provide essential services to the community and while the health and safety of everyone who visits the centre remains our priority, we are pleased to see retailers able to reopen. 

The Victorian Government recently announced changes to contact tracing for some businesses. From 7th December: 

  • Masks must be carried at all times. They are mandatory when inside shopping centres, retail stores inside shopping centres, department stores, electronic stores, hardware stores or supermarkets, when travelling on public transport or when travelling in a commercial passenger vehicle.  

  • Density limits for pubs, restaurants and cafes move to 1 person per 2sqm for both indoor and outdoors with no other cap. Up to 25 patrons are permitted before the density quota applies.  The use of electric record keeping – a QR code – is mandatory. 

  • Food courts are open with a density quota of 1 person per 2sqm. 

  • For retail and beauty services, businesses will be able to move to 1 person per 2sqm – if they introduce electronic record keeping. For business where that is not possible, the existing density limits will continue to apply (1 per 4sqm). 

  • Community facilities and libraries also move to a density quota of 1 person per 2sqm if using electronic record keeping. Otherwise density quota of 1 person per 4sqm applies.  

We appreciate your cooperation when visiting retailers who require you to check-in. 

We are working hard to ensure a visit to Malvern Central remains a safe and welcoming experience. We have remained diligent in our cleaning processes and through our service providers, we have placed additional focus on key areas such as hard surfaces and bathrooms and all AMP Capital managed assets have facilities in place to support our customers and tenants to practise good hygiene, such as hand sanitisers. We’ve also increased signage and security to ensure physical distancing and other government measures continue to be observed by everyone.  

Our centre has signs at entry points to instruct customers not to enter if they are unwell or have COVID-19 symptoms. Each business has the right to refuse service and must insist that anyone with these symptoms leaves the premises. Where practically possible, retailers have set up separate exit and entry points to minimise contact.
Beauty services will open with strict COVIDSafe measures in place.

Face Masks
Please remember, if you do need to visit the shopping centre for essential services, in line with advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer and the Victorian Government, you must always wear a face mask that covers your mouth and nose whilst inside the shopping centre. This applies to all visitors over the age of 12 years old. 

There will be some reasons for residents of Metropolitan Melbourne not to wear a face mask, including:

  • medical reasons
  • if you’re under the age of 12
  • professional reasons
  • if it's not practical, for example running. You will still need to carry a face mask at all times to wear before and after exercise
