Meet Tom from Peter Bouchier

Tell us a little about the history of Peter Bouchier and how it all started?
My parents started the business in 1983, just a few doors down from where our Toorak store stands today. There have been many challenging moments along the way but it has been a rewarding journey for the whole family.

What’s your position in the family business and how big is your staff here at Malvern Central?
I'm the Store Manager here at Malvern Central, however, being a family business, I also help out when and where I’m needed across our other retail stores and wholesale factory.

What’s the best part about your job?
I think the best part of my job is providing customers with new and innovative products. I really enjoy the interaction with customers, having a chat and getting to know their food interests and how they like to cook at home.
Everyone’s routines, preferences and capabilities are different, so I like to consider this when we create new products and aim to appeal to a variety of customers. I find that really exciting.

Tell us something people might not know about the business?
Peter Bouchier Butchers was once located on Glenferrie road very close to Malvern Central. In the late 80’s the shop on Malvern Road was sold, and we were evicted as tenants. My parents relocated the shop to Glenferrie Road to a small shop just opposite the Malvern Central carpark entry, it was almost two years that we were there before heading back to Malvern Road where the store is currently.

We notice you are now offering a home delivery service to customers. How has this been received?
The feedback we have gotten has been very positive and customers have appreciated how quick we were able to get the system up and running. It has been really helpful for those who are self-isolating and opting to stay home as much as possible. The online store doesn’t have our full product range, so there are a few limitations, and many of our customers are still coming into store – which I must say is really great because we thrive on customer interactions and we miss them when we don't see them face to face!

What is the most popular product at Malvern?
At the moment it would have to be between our new Cottage pie and the humble chicken schnitzel.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I like to go surfing, watch sport and go the pub with my friends.

Peter Bouchier is open 7 days a week and located on the upper level outside Woolworths.
