Style and travel tips with iconic fashion influencer Margaret Porritt from Feathers

Tell us a bit about your business?
Feathers started in 1972 and is recognised as one of Australia's most renowned boutiques. Feathers has been part of Malvern Central for 25 years and offers the Australian woman classic designs with utmost quality and aspirational direction. Collections maintain a focus on sleek layering with a contemporary twist and often include jersey dresses, merino knitwear, leggings and outerwear in a plethora of colours, prints and neutrals combined with the famous Feathers black. Pieces are flexible and silhouettes are functional. Feathers is now in its 50th year and the brand is as strong as ever.

What is your position and how big is your team?
I am sole director and founder of Feathers Boutique. I oversee the designs of every single garment, whilst making sure we are using the highest quality material for our pieces. I have twelve stores throughout Australia and over forty valued employees. The employees and the women of Feathers are like a family and many staff members have been in the company for over 20 years.

Where is your favourite destination to travel and why?
As I’m a skier my favourite destinations to travel to are Zurs Austria and Aspen USA. I also love New York and when we are able to travel, I travel there 2-3 times a year. I also enjoy going to the Hamptons.

What are your recommended travelling items?
Feathers is renowned for its fabrics which travel well. We offer classics with a twist, in lightweight stretch material. We have great summer options, breathable fabrics, or for cooler destinations our light weight puffer.

Can you tell us about how you build your own travel capsule wardrobe?
My keywords with my Feathers wardrobe is eat, sleep and bath in the travelling styles because after a day out and about, you can pop the garments in the bath, and wear them the next day. Over that what’s perfect is either the Prene shoulder bag which is perfect for putting your passport in, or the Brighton bag.
